Sheaf of Wheat
Wheat is emblematic of the good, the fruitful and that which sustains life. In Jesus' parable (Matthew
13:24-30) of the wheat and weeds, wheat represents the fruitful citizens of the Kingdom of God. In Psalm
81:16, the Psalmist has God saying to Israel, "I would feed you with the finest of wheat." Wheat, as
the source of bread, comes to its symbolic climax in the words of Jesus: "I am the bread of Life." (John
6:48).
