Chalice
The chalice, or cup, is a symbolic reminder of the Last Supper when Jesus, taking the cup, said, "This is
my blood shed for many unto the remission of sins. " The chalice is also referred to as the Holy Grail,
visions of which were historically associated with the medieval crusades. A common cup was regularly
used in the communion service until Dr. Louis Pasteur made men aware of germs. This awareness led to
the use of individual communion cups.
