Ten Commandments
The two tablets symbolize the ten commandments as recorded in Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-
21. The ten commandments are, in turn, emblematic of the basic spiritual and ethical laws of God,
presented through Moses. They also are representative of the total authority of God and His laws of the
universe. Psalm 19 and 119 develop this implication. Jesus refers to the commandments in his interview
with the rich young ruler, (Matthew 19:16-22).
