Welcome:
I obtained my PhD degree in Computer Science from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. My doctoral dissertation revolved around the development of a mathematical foundation for deductive object-oriented databases in the direction of the acclaimed F-logic. Although many of these works involve theoretical development and mathematical logic, I have also developed several practical software systems. Some of my recent systems are online for public use at MSU http://www.cs.msstate.edu/~sbase/datalog/ and at ACM SIGMOD tools page. I founded the Intelligent Database Systems Research Group at MSU. My current research interests include scientific databases, bioinformatics, cooperative databases, data mining, XML and semistructured databases. I am a member of the IEEE Bioinformatics Conference steering committee, the Chair of the IFIP TC 5 Task Force on Bioinformatics, member of the Editoral Board of the ACM Applied Computing Review, member of the IASTED Technical Committee on databases, and Guest Editor for Kluwer Journal on Computational Bioinformatics and Bioengineering. I have been a reviewer for NSF, NIH, and NSERC Canada, as well as for several conferences and journals including Bioinformatics, JICIS, KAIS, IEEE TKDE, ACM TODS, JFLP, JLP, ACM SIGMOD '95, LID '96, IEEE BIBE Symposium (2000, 2001, 2003), ACM SAC Bioinformatics 2002, IEEE ICDM (2002, 2003), DaWaK (2001, 2002, 2003), INAP 2001, ACM SAC Data Mining (2002, 2003), ACM BIOKDD (2001, 2002), NGITS 2002, and so on over the course of my professional career. While my research interests primarily include databases with an emphasis in mathematical logic and its applications in object-oriented systems, I am also involved in research in artificial intelligence. My research efforts have spanned active collaborations with many national and international researchers.
