GRE REQUIREMENT CHANGES

In the interests of helping potential students who are trying to make career decisions in these difficult economic times, the department has decided to suspend the GRE requirement for applicants to the Master's program currently residing in the SE Michigan area. If you live in Wayne County or one of the surrounding counties or the Windsor area, you can submit your application with a brief note requesting waiver of GRE. If you have questions whether or not you apply, please feel free to contact the department.

Below are answers to some questions about this policy.

Question: How long will you be waiving the GRE requirement?

Answer: We will be waiving the GRE requirement for applicants who are planning to matriculate before or for the Fall 2011 semester. Depending on the response and our experience with this waiver, the policy may be extended or revised for applications beyond that date.

Question: I am interested in studying for a Master's in Computer Science, but my undergraduate degree is not in Computer Science. Can I take advantage of this opportunity?

Answer: You will need the appropriate Computer Science prerequisites in order to begin graduate studies. It is not necessary to do a second Bachelor's degree, but you do need the necessary undergraduate coursework. The department has programs in place to help you prepare to study for a Master's degree. You can contact the department for further information.

Question: My degree was earned from outside the USA. Can I get a waiver of the GRE requirement?

Answer: Yes, if you are now living in this area. This waiver is for all students residing in the local area.

Question: I'm applying for a Ph.D. Can I get a GRE waiver?

Answer: No. This policy applies only to Master's applicants. Ph.D. applicants are still required to submit GRE scores as part of their application.
