Prospective students

We are constantly looking for intelligent, talented and self-motivated students to work on solving data mining, machine learning and pattern recognition problems in computational biology and systems biology. Ph.D. students are expected to develop innovative data mining, machine learning and pattern recognition models, algorithms and software tools to advance bioinformatics and systems biology research. Master students are expected to grasp the cutting-edge techniques for analyzing high throughput molecular profiling data, including but not limited to: next-generation sequencing data, microarray data, proteomics data.

Students with strong backgrounds and trainings in computer science and/or mathematics, statistics are encouraged to apply. Prior backgrounds in biological sciences are NOT required but are appreciated.

Students in our research group usually graduate with a number of first-authored research papers in highly regarded bioinformatics journals and conferences. Many of them landed at attractive jobs in academia or industry.

According to salary surveies, bioinformatics salaries are fairly high, compared to many other sciences, even those who just entering the field. With just a few years of experience or a Ph.D. degree, the average income of randomly selected bioinformatics employees goes into the range of six figures.
